Soft-bristle habits: brushes, pressure and timers

A soft brush used well beats a hard brush used like sandpaper.

1

Why soft

Hard bristles can scrape enamel and irritate gums. Soft bristles flex into the gumline without the same wear.

2

Pressure check

Bristles should flex slightly, not flatten against the tooth. If your brush head looks smashed after a week, ease up.

3

Timers help

Electric brushes often beep every 30 seconds so you cover each quadrant. A phone timer works for a manual brush.

4

Replace regularly

Frayed bristles clean poorly. Every three months, or sooner after illness, is a common replacement rhythm.
